Trash to Treasure is a recurring event where students donate useful items as they move out and then they are sold on at low cost to students moving in. All proceeds of the event go back into running the event each year.

We collect items like kitchenware, furniture, bedding, books, clothing, sporting and hobby equipment, lab coats and electronics when students are moving out of their accommodation.  Those items are then sorted, and bedding is professionally cleaned, and stored.  We then sell the items on to students at a low cost, with all proceeds going toward running the event.

In September 2025, we calculated that just with the bedding, kitchenware, hats, scarves and jumpers, we saved an estimated 9,700kg of C02e from being emitted into the atmosphere.  By buying second hand, you're saving energy emissions from the transport and production as well as protecting valuable resources like trees, land and water from being used in the production.

The initiative is run by Trinity Sustainability, Students' Union, Green Campus Committee and supported by Estates and Facilities staff who facilitate the logistics of moving tonnes of items.  Students are also hired on an hourly basis to help sort and set-up.
