Projects
- Title
- A portal to the Fagel Collection
- Summary
- Early modern collectors built worlds in miniature, displaying books, sculptures, paintings, and furniture in special rooms or purpose-built structures. These private museums displayed the wealth, knowledge and taste of their owners. Over the eighteenth-century, the Dutch Fagel family assembled one of the most important collections in Europe. They sold the collection in a series of auctions around 1800. TCD purchased the library in 1802, and the rest of the objects were dispersed. This project will reunite objects from the Fagel collection within the virtual space of the Fagel home. It will increase accessibility to the materials for both researchers and the public while drawing on the latest technology in the digital humanities to reconstruct the relationship between objects and space.
