- LOI determinations
- Ashing of organic samples
- ICP-OES bulk chemistry preparation (LiBO3 fusion and acid digestion)
- ICP-OES and ICP-MS microwave digestion
- XRD preparation (pressed powder discs, see in situ geochem)
- Bench and fume hood space can be made available for other preparations upon arrangement

- Mars Microwave Digestion System
- Katanax Automatic Fluxer (inserts for both fused glass discs and acid digestion of fused glass)
- Mechanical Press (x2)
- Memmert Oven (up to 200°C)
- SNOL Furnace (up to 1050°C)
- Ohaus suite of balances (shielded, d = 0.0001g, 120g max)
- Ultrasonic cleaners
- Magnetic stirrers

As the general laboratory is a shared workspace, dust producing activities such as the breaking down of solid samples (drilling, crushing, milling etc.) cannot be accommodated. The rock preparation facilities in Unit 36B are available for all pre-processing of solid samples. |
