Ruofei Ma
Ruofei Ma graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Jilin Agricultural University and she also has an Environmental Science master’s degree from Trinity College Dublin. Ruofei joined the Botany Department as a research masters student in March 2026. She is now a part of the BNIPASTURES project under a collaborative team at Teagasc and AgResearch in New Zealand. This project aims to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from ruminant systems through accelerating nitrification inhibition in ryegrass and plantain mixed pastures. Ruofei's focus is on identifying potent sources of biological nitrification inhibition (BNI) activity in Irish perennial ryegrass by developing high-throughput screening tools, as well as investigating the metabolic pathways and candidate genes associated with high BNI capacity.
