Trinity’s Herbarium is a historic collection boasting up to half a million preserved plant specimens, representing three centuries of Irish botanical research within the School of Natural Sciences.
It is a prized resource within the School, and wider university supporting research into plant taxonomy, biodiversity, conservation and environmental change.
Transforming Trinity’s Herbarium is supported through a €1.5 million investment from the National Parks and Wildlife Service of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
On Wednesday 16th September 2026 Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, formally reopened Trinity College Dublin’s historic Herbarium following its major programme of restoration and transformation supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
