Postdoctoral research fellow and award-winning science communicator, specialising in ocean-atmosphere interactions and climate impacts. My current research on the Horizon EU-funded REWRITE project investigates the ecological and social functioning of intertidal seascapes within Dublin Bay, assessing how factors such as sea level rise, extreme events, and biodiversity loss impact coastal environments on local and global scales. Along with my research, I serve as the National MAB Youth Focal Point for Ireland and the youth representative for the Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, engaging with coastal communities through education and local citizen science initiatives.
My PhD research focused on the development of shelf-edge cold-water corals along the Irish margin, assessment of anthropogenic stressors on skeletal structure biomineralization, and geochemical proxies for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. I received my BSc in marine science with a minor in geology and an MSc in environmental science from Florida Gulf Coast University, where I studied upper-ocean response to major hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean Sea. During my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant for the Coastal Paleobiology Research Group analysing modern and archaeologic oyster reefs through palaeogeography and salinity indicators to assess resource utilisation of Calusa Native Americans and reef development near Pine Island and Mound Key in Estero Bay, Florida, USA.
Prior to my formal education, I assisted with acoustic surveying and restoration of oyster reefs in the St. Lucie River in Martin County, Florida, USA. Along with that role, I worked as a sea turtle scout for four years, educating the public on southeast Florida's sea turtle nesting population and leading nighttime beach walks during nesting season (conducted under state permit).
