Research Infrastructure
The Trinity Centre for the Environment houses dedicated laboratories and equipment, primarily to support research within the School of Natural Sciences at Trinity College Dublin. Our research equipment is housed in separate process specific laboratories. These are shared facilities with a number of different users at any given time. The following is a list of our equipment and analytical services available to internal and external users. Anyone external to the School of Natural Sciences, or external to Trinity College Dublin, is welcome to contact us to enquire about access and costs for research support and analytical services.

Project-based laboratory
This laboratory provides flexible space for specific research projects on a short to medium basis. Currently the laboratory is configured to provide space for researchers in environmental radioactivity, which includes sample preparation facilities for the stable isotope analysis of environmental samples, radioactivity in building materials, and the use of naturally occurring radio-isotope tracers in environmental research. The configuration and equipment contained in the laboratory changes from time to time, as required by active research projects.
Field-based equipment
The Trinity Centre for the Environment has a large range of equipment to support field collection of data. Due to the specialised nature of some of the equipment (e.g. UAVs), use of some of this equipment may be restricted to those with appropriate certified training and user experience.
- DJI M300 UAV
- DJI M350 UAV
- DJI L1 Zenmuse LiDAR for UAV use
- Georadis D230A miniature gamma ray spectrometer for UAV use
- Georadis GT-40 portable gamma ray spectrometer
- MicaSense multi-spectral sensor for UAV use
- Radon JOK for gaseous sub-soil permeability measurements
- RM-2 Ionization chamber for soil gas radon concentrations
- Sarad radon and thoron monitor
