Congratulations to Assist. Prof. Justin MacGregor and Assist. Prof. Miranda Fay Thomas who have both been awarded grants to support current projects. Assist. Prof. MacGregor's project entitled When Havel Met Lear will fund the making of a 30 minute documentary out of 8mm films and various photographs taken during Royal Shakespeare Company's 1964 production of King Lear that toured Prague to gain insights into Vaclav Havel, a Czech statesman, playwright, and former dissident. Havel served as the last president of Czechoslovakia until its dissolution in 1992 and the first president of the Czech Republic until 2003. Assist. Prof. Miranda Fay Thomas' project entitled Original Practices in a Time of Transition: Emma Rice and Michelle Terry at Shakespeare's Globe will explore the work of Shakespeare's Globe's first two female artistic directors: Emma Rice (2016-17) and Michelle Terry (2017-present).
