The French Department contributes to the following Masters programmes in the School:
- M.Phil in Identities and Cultures of Europe
- M.Phil in Comparative Literature
- M.Phil in Literary Translation
- M.Phil in Digital Humanities
Research Masters (M.Litt):
Prospective candidates may also apply for a research-only Masters in French Studies. A student registered for this degree carries out research over a period of one (mininum) to two (maximum) years, after which the candidate submits their thesis. Prospective candidates wishing to apply for an MLitt in the French Department should review the Department’s research areas. select a potential supervisor, and direct initial enquiries to the Head of Department, providing a full CV and a one to two page outline of the research project envisaged. Please note that candidates must have a first- or upper-second-class degree in French (or in the French component of their degree) to be considered for research in the Department.
Postgraduate Diploma in French for Teachers
Trinity College Dublin will deliver this pilot upskilling programme, commencing in September 2025, on behalf of the Department of Education, aimed at increasing the number of qualified post-primary teachers in French in Ireland.
Objectives
- The course allows the teacher participants to develop their language proficiency in French across all skills, to gain an in-depth knowledge of French language culture and to adapt and grow their pedagogical expertise and apply it to the teaching of French.
- Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma, teacher participants will meet Teaching Council curricular subject requirements to teach French to Leaving Certificate level.
- Participants will be interested in developing their language proficiency in French, gaining in-depth knowledge of French language culture and growing their pedagogical expertise.
