Technical Support Team

Experimental work is a core part of our school mission and requires the design, manufacture, and development of advanced testing rigs. This is a highly interactive and consultative process that requires experience and skilled support from our technical support team. This team of technical professionals from a variety of technical backgrounds, i.e., manufacturing, design, electronics, I.T., mechanical and biomedical engineering, come together to provide advanced technical support to our researchers and students.

Our technical support team is key to the success of undergraduate teaching laboratories and projects, and postgraduate research activities across all of our research groups at multiple locations in Trinity. The knowledge and professionalism of the technical team provides support in experimental design, materials and components selection, instrumentation and data acquisition, LabView, SolidWorks, component and experiment manufacture and assembly, experimental troubleshooting, IT administration, safety and experimental testing. This support has been crucial to the successful publications and research awards for the department.

The mechanical workshop is situated on the ground floor of the Parsons building. This 270 m2 facility is equipped with state of the art CNC machine tools, conventional lathes and milling machines and welding and fabrication equipment. A list of the workshop equipment can be found here.

The following video illustrates the 3-step process used in the manufacture of parts here in the Dept. of Mechanical, Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering:

In addition to the workshop, our technical team have designed, built, and maintain a 3D printing facility that primarily services undergraduate projects and also supports research project work.

If you are looking to have parts manufactured in our workshop, or to book 3D printer, please contact our Workshop Manager, Alex Kearns [javascript protected email address]
