Zoology Building Refurbishment

The Zoology building was built in 1876. It was specifically designed and built to house the Zoological Museum

Today, little remains of the original interior of the building. Years of renovation and modification have taken their toll on the structure of the building.

Several prefabricated units located to the rear of the Zoology Building were demolished to make way for the E3 Learning Foundry. These units previously housed Zoology research laboratories and associated office space. This Refurbishment Project aims to reconfigure areas within the Zoology Building, from Basement to Second Floor, to replace the laboratory and office space lost through the demolition. Works include essential statutory compliance, i.e. Fire Upgrade works and include for the installation of a new wet room, cold rooms and IT etc

Externally, there will be works to the rear elevation to include installation of new windows and the installation of a ramp to the Basement. The enabling phase for this project included works to Unit 5 and Unit 17 in Trinity East to accommodate Zoology lab functions and staff accommodation while refurbishment works to the Zoology Building are underway.
