While not all heroes wear capes, some do wear high-visibility jackets, service attire and Trinity uniforms.

Robert Burke, an Attendant in Goldsmith Hall, and Mick Byrne, Attendant Supervisor in Premises Area 4, have each devoted years of service to supporting others through their volunteer roles while continuing to play vital roles within the Trinity community.

For almost a decade, Robert Burke has been a familiar and dependable presence in Goldsmith Hall. Since joining Trinity in 2017, he has helped ensure that students, visitors, and residents experience a safe, welcoming and well-run environment every day. From assisting with accommodation queries and preparing rooms for examinations, to supporting access control and working closely with housekeeping, maintenance and security teams, Robert’s contribution is felt widely across Goldsmith Hall.

Outside Trinity, Robert serves as a Corporal with the Army Reserve, based with 2 MP Company in Cathal Brugha Barracks. His commitment to public service is longstanding, having previously worked as a trained Emergency Medical Technician. Whether in uniform or on campus, Robert exemplifies the readiness, reliability and calm professionalism that are hallmarks of national service.

Mick Byrne has an equally impressive record of service. Having joined Trinity in 2003, he has spent more than 23 years supporting the College community in a variety of roles. Beginning his career as a Security Officer, Mick worked across numerous areas of campus security before moving into his current position as Attendant Supervisor in 2023. Today, he supervises a team responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of several key buildings, helping to create a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for all who use them.

Beyond Trinity, Mick serves as a Class Officer with the Dublin Civil Defence unit in Dún Laoghaire. His role involves coordinating volunteers, supporting training, managing resources, and helping to organise emergency response activities. Before joining Civil Defence, Mick dedicated 22 years to the Army Reserve's Military Police Corps, where he played a key role in training and developing personnel.

Estates and Facilities is delighted to recognise Robert and Mick for the extraordinary contribution they make both on and off campus. Their willingness to step forward, lend a hand and support others reflects the very best of the volunteering tradition.

We thank Robert and Mick for their dedication, commitment, and service, and congratulate them on being such outstanding representatives of both Trinity and Ireland’s national services community. Their efforts inspire us all and remind us that community service, teamwork and helping others are values worth celebrating every day.
