We are proud to celebrate Trinity College Dublin School of Engineering alumnus Dr Damien Kelly, who was part of the Google/YouTube team honoured with a Technical Emmy Award at the ceremony on 5 December 2025. The award recognises innovation in 360-degree consumer video capture, editing and presentation technologies, a breakthrough that has transformed immersive video experiences worldwide.
Damien graduated from Trinity with a BAI in Electronic and Computer Engineering (2005) and later earned his PhD in Engineering (2010), working with Professor Frank Boland on audio signal processing. His career began at GreenParrotPictures, a Trinity spin-out founded by Professor Anil Kokaram, which was acquired by YouTube in 2011. Since then, Damien has played a key role in advancing video streaming technologies that impact millions globally.

Damien’s contributions include building the first 360° video and audio platform at YouTube and leading innovations that enhance video quality for users worldwide. Today, he heads the video quality team for Google Meet, continuing to shape the future of streaming media.
