Mateus Sanches

Mateus is a biologist with a master’s degree in Ecology from the University of Brasília (UnB), where he developed a strong interest in how insects and plants communicate. He started his journey in entomology, a field that has always fascinated him, by studying Cerrado beetles, and later moved into chemical ecology. During his master’s, he focused on chemical communication and semiochemicals related to the biological control of maize pests. In 2025 he started his PhD at Trinity College Dublin, in the Chemical Ecology group of the Department of Botany, where he will investigate insect–plant interactions, focusing on herbivore feeding patterns and the dynamics of plant defence responses.
