Developing the Civic Engagement Action Plan

Trinity’s Civic Engagement for Societal Impact (CESI) Action Plan was developed through a set of collaborative processes across the wider Trinity community.

Between November 2022 and the end of January 2023, we held our six community consultations for idea generation and the three Rapid Response Group meetings. In total, we engaged 182 individuals and received 991 comments, which were categorised as follows: Barriers (199); Enablers (198); Champions (266) and Activities (328).

In February 2023, the Core Project Team scored this input against 16 criteria in three categories: project level of readiness, values, and outcomes. Those inputs which were highest scoring in each category were organised against the five dimensions:

  • Teaching & Learning;
  • Research & Innovation;
  • Student Engagement;
  • Management/Supports/Policies; and
  • Partnerships & Openness

Following engagement with the Provost’s team, we have organised these dimensions into six themes with associated areas of action.

  1. Raise Awareness on Activities, Champions & Opportunities: 8 Areas for Action
  2. Build Capacity to Advance Quality Approaches: 6 Areas for Action
  3. Overcome Institutional Barriers: 4 Areas for Action
  4. Provide Resourcing & Funding for CESI to Thrive: 2 Areas for Action
  5. Recognise, Reward & Value Good Practices: 1 Area for Action
  6. Support Colleagues & Existing Activities to Extend Impact: 3 Areas for Action

The final plan was then agreed at college level and was launched in November 2023.

As a team, we would like to thank all of our colleagues and supporters for their contributions to the Plan.
