The University Council has approved the establishment of a Research Hub for Learning Innovation as a first step towards an expanded, fully operational Teaching and Learning Centre. The aim of this new entity is to empower academic staff, teaching and learning support staff and students to respond to educational challenges by (co)researching pedagogical innovations, evaluating and, as appropriate, integrating innovations within College curricula.

This Hub forms a key component of the Institutional Strategy in respect of its teaching and learning objectives and aligns with National and European policy and legislative requirements, including the Higher Education Bill 2022, the National Strategy for Higher Education to 2030, the Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027), and broader European initiatives such as the European Education Area and the European Green Deal.

Aims and Objectives

  • Mobilisation and coordination of College expertise to pilot, evaluate and embed research-informed teaching practices, curricular reforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Creation of a collaborative platform for academics, professional services, and students to co-create solutions to systemic challenges such as digital transformation, equitable access, AI integration, sustainability, and graduate employability.
  • Consolidation of Trinity’s leadership in pedagogical research and curriculum design while building capacity for scalable, institution-wide enhancement in teaching and learning.
  • Dissemination of effective practices that empower academic and professional staff, and students to respond effectively to the evolving higher educational landscape.
  • Identification of learning innovations with potential to sustainably integrate and mainstream across Trinity curricula.
  • Advance Trinity’s strategic priorities for teaching and learning enhancement.

Expressions of Interest: Initial Phase (2025-27)

As part of its initial two-year feasibility phase, the Hub is launching a College wide call for proposals seeking learning innovation research projects that advance understanding and practice in teaching and learning. This competitive funding programme aims to support high-impact learning innovation projects that address critical challenges in education and generate evidence-based solutions for enhancing teaching, learning and assessment at Trinity.

In this first funding cycle, proposals will be welcomed in the following priority areas aligned to Trinity’s Strategic Plan, and national and European priorities:

  • Inclusivity and access in the curriculum
  • Teaching, learning and assessment in an era of generative AI
