An Ghaeltacht
As part of the degree in Modern Irish, each student chooses one of the major dialects of Irish (Connacht, Munster or Ulster) for their spoken language classes. Students are strongly encouraged to spend a minimum of one month in any Gaeltacht area during their degree. This immersive residential period is a requirement for registration with the Teaching Council, as well as being of huge benefit to their confidence and fluency in Irish. Grants are available to all students every year to spend time immersed in a Gaeltacht environment.
Many of our students spend their summers working or attending courses in Gaeltacht areas. Each May an intensive course is held exclusively for Trinity students in Áras Mháirtín Uí Chadháin, Connemara, giving students a great opportunity to bond with their classmates and to improve their Irish before the next academic year.
