Trinity Elective: Entrepreneurial Action

Whether you see yourself starting your own venture or working within an organisation, an entrepreneurial mindset can set you apart. You will build resilience, creativity and strong decision-making skills, all essential in today’s evolving job and business landscape.

Identify and Evaluate Opportunities
Learn how to recognise and critically assess new social, economic or cultural opportunities. This is essential whether you want to launch your own initiative or innovate within an existing organisation.

Turn Ideas into Action
Understand the practical steps required to move from concept to real-world project or venture.

Develop a Venture Plan
Gain the tools to design a clear, strategic and actionable plan that supports successful outcomes.

Communicate and Engage Effectively
Strengthen your pitching, stakeholder engagement and teamwork skills. These are crucial for influencing others and driving innovation.

You will also develop skills in:

  • Team building and collaboration

  • Effective communication and persuasion

  • Designing business models to inform actionable venture plans

  • Project management to support implementation of creative ideas


What will you do?

Throughout the module, you can expect:

  • Weekly 2-hour sessions delivered through in-person, online and independent learning (asynchronous)

  • A facilitated workshop to support the group innovation project

  • Ongoing collaboration with your team to prepare for the final group presentation

  • Short post-class tasks shared in your personal reflection journal on Blackboard to support assessment

  • Active engagement with peers and educators through Discussion Boards


How is it delivered?

The module combines in-person teaching, online learning and independent study.

  • 22 contact hours (in-person and online), including group presentations

  • 25 hours of individual and group assessment preparation

  • 45 hours of self-directed independent learning, reading and reflection

  • 8 hours of formative assessment through online discussion boards and reflective posts

Group presentations take place in person over the final two days of the module. Each group will have up to 10 minutes for their presentation, followed by questions and answers. Attendance and participation are required.


How will you be assessed?

There are three assessment components:

20% – Individual 90-Second Elevator Video Pitch
Create a short video articulating the unique value proposition of an idea, product, service or policy designed to engage relevant stakeholders and support further development.

40% – Group Project Presentation
Present a potential venture solution to a problem or opportunity identified by your group.

40% – Individual Reflective Report (1,000 words)
Use structured reflection models to highlight key insights and learning from the module. Apply SMART goals to demonstrate how your learning will shape your future professional development and actions.


Who can take this elective?

Any student eligible to take a Trinity Elective can choose this module.

The elective is open to students from all disciplines and offers value regardless of your field of study.

  • STEM students can apply technical skills to innovative, technology-driven problem-solving.

  • Humanities and Social Sciences students can strengthen analytical thinking, communication and critical evaluation through social entrepreneurship and persuasive pitching.

  • Business and Economics students gain practical experience in market analysis, business modelling and financial strategy.

  • Arts students can apply creativity to problem-solving, product development and storytelling, bringing cultural and artistic insight to new ventures.

By bringing together students from different backgrounds, the module encourages diverse perspectives on entrepreneurship and innovation, creating a dynamic and practical learning experience.

This elective is also an excellent follow-up for students who previously enjoyed the Trinity Elective in Design Thinking in Semester 1.
