HIU33002 Researching History: Methodologies

  • Duration:
    • Hilary term
  • Contact Hours:
    • 11 in total
  • Weighting:
    • 5 ECTS
  • Assessment:
    • 80% research proposal, 20% presentation

The aim of this module is to produce a research proposal which could (but will not necessarily) form the basis of a final year dissertation in History. It will be sufficiently sturdy to enable the student to begin work on their capstone project (dissertation) at the outset of the S.S. year, having already compiled a feasible working bibliography, identified significant issues in the existing literature, and undertaken reflection on the research process. At a ‘skills’ level, the module enables students to learn how to design a research project, locate relevant sources and identify the challenges of a research agenda.

This module will be taught in small groups led by the same lecturer students had for Researching History: Concepts and Theories. The research proposal, however, may be in any area of the student’s choice and need not relate to the theme of the first module.
