Research

‘Communal divisions and discord in King’s and Queen’s counties during the 1641 Rebellion’.
My research explores the breakdown of communal relations within King’s and Queen’s counties during the 1641 rebellion. Both counties witnessed atrocities during the rebellion in a vicious atmosphere that divided local communities. My study will focus on the role of dissident families and on tenant-landlord relation. A comparative analysis will help to illuminate the particular circumstances of both counties. I will analyse the breakdown of relations between neighbours as a micro-study of popular behavior during the rebellion. I will examine the true extent and legacy of communal violence within King’s and Queen’s counties.
