Sp Cert Graduates

Since 2016, we have celebrated 132 staff members completing the SP cert from across the disciplines.

This summer we look forward to celebrating with a further 27 staff at their graduation.

What some of our students had to say:

"I have thoroughly enjoyed completing all the modules as part of the SP Cert. The quality of teaching on this certificate course is extremely impressive, and its practical focus means that you can immediately transfer your learning into your teaching practice. There is flexibility with the modules that you choose to complete, meaning that you can select aspects of your teaching that you would like to expand your learning in. This course has transformed my beliefs and values surrounding teaching and learning, and my teaching practice has evolved to one that is evidence-based, student-centred, and supportive of all learning types. My sincere gratitude to all those involved in the teaching of this excellent course".  Dr Amy Connery, School of Linguistic Speech & Communication Sciences - Graduate 2024

"The cert programme is very manageable, creates new networks, gives new insights into teaching practices across College and has an expert and supportive teaching team.  Definitely worth doing! " Ms Geraldine Fitzgerald, Library - Graduate 2024

Previous Graduates

"I think more senior academics like me would really benefit from this module so some way to allow them time to do so would be great".

School of Engineering

"This has been a wonderful experience in many ways. I can’t wait to put my learnings into practice!"

School of Business

"The SPC will be very helpful to my future career. I also want to thank you and the SPC group, heartfully. Those classes were my first connection to teaching, which made me feel teaching is much more interesting and meaningful than my realisation".

School of Natural Sciences

"I have really enjoyed this module and I found the module itself not only to be extremely useful, but also to be an example for well-structured and organised online module, with great resources and materials uploaded on the Blackboard. It was a pleasure to follow it".

School of Natural Sciences

"The modules were all incredibly valuable and I  think it’s amazing that they’re free for academic staff.  The staff who ran the modules were clearly invested... The flexibility of assessment within the modules was fantastic and is probably the reason I was able to complete so many, as you could choose an assessment style that suited your schedule/free time at a particular point in the year.  The deadlines for assessments were also generous and clearly designed with full-time professionals in mind. The feedback I gave at the time after every module was already very positive but I think it’s important to hammer home what an incredible job everyone in your department does".

School of Medicine

"I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for all the ingenuity and sheer hard work that you and your team have accomplished this term. Without the advice for adapting teaching to online learning, the feedback on Panopto questions, the guidance on using Collaborate Ultra, the supportive and interactive webinars, I simply would not have been able to cope with the transition during COVID.  What has been especially helpful is the examples of how to structure and organise modules. I have used pre-recorded lectures combined with live review sessions. I have organised review sessions around module themes and provided quizzes for the students, received open questions from them, and used breakout rooms to brainstorm answers to essay questions. It has been really effective and has generated more discussion and interaction than a typical in-person lecture, in which the time for Q&A at the end is always curtailed by our 50min lecture rule.....Since them I have gone from been somewhat overwhelmed to being in an optimistic place in December, where I’m asking what elements of online teaching I should keep going forward into the post-pandemic days. Thank you so much for the support..."
