What We Do...
We offer free, confidential and non-judgemental support to registered students of Trinity College Dublin and the Marino Institute of Education, who are experiencing personal and/or academic concerns.
Our team of qualified counsellors and learning strategists are committed to promoting and protecting wellbeing and success throughout a diverse student body.
No matter who you are, no matter what your situation is, the Student Counselling Service is here to support you through your difficulties.
We strive to help all Trinity students irrespective of age, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, gender identity and expression, marital or family status, religion, ethnicity or culture.
If you are struggling to cope with problems of a personal nature, we would like to encourage you to book an appointment with one of our team before the situation escalates any further. Your first appointment is a brief consultation, where you can discuss options available. If needed, you will be referred on to counselling or to other support services.
The Counselling Team is staffed by experienced clinical and counselling psychologists/psychotherapists who are registered with the Irish Council of Psychotherapy (ICP) or the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
We offer online, one-to-one and group counselling services.
If you are interested in counselling and would like to learn more about the options available to you, please see our Counselling Services section.
Trainee and Volunteer Opportunities
The TCD SCS offer excellent learning opportunities for trainees and volunteers to work with students in an individual, group and online capacity. We require interested parties to have at least 100 hours of counselling/psychotherapy experience before joining our team and to offer at least one full day to the service. We are a busy, brief-therapy service. Our clients are diverse in terms of ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender, and present with a multiplicity of issues. SCS counsellors acquire excellent learning in assessment skills, counselling skills, and multidisciplinary liaison. We strongly encourage our trainees and volunteers to get involved in our many therapeutic and psychoeducational groups. We are also open to new ideas for student and staff workshops.
We are passionately committed to providing a supportive environment for learning and professional growth. Regular one-to-one and group supervision is provided on site. We have a strong belief in inclusivity and welcome individuals from all theoretical orientations. We promote and celebrate diversity among our staff and clients alike.
Trainees and volunteers must be qualified or qualifying for HEA level 9 and above. They must be eligible for, or working towards, ICP (Irish Council of Psychotherapy or PSI (Psychological Society of Ireland) registration.
Please email any queries to Mark Robinson at firstname.lastname@example.org
