An Ghaeilge sa Choláiste - Why Study Irish at Trinity?
Between all our courses, we have around 200 students in the Irish Department - large enough for a fun-filled student life, but small enough that students and staff can get to know each other personally. Our students benefit from a lot of a support from staff, and a high standard of teaching.
The Irish Department is in Trinity's main campus, in rooms 4055-4062 in the Arts Building. Queries and visitors are welcome in the departmental office, in room 4055. Dr Eoin Mac Cárthaigh is the Head of Department.
The Department of Irish in Trinity College is a small but strong department, with a long history behind it - the Chair of Irish was founded in 1840 and it has been home to excellent scholarship ever since.
In this department, students can take Early or Modern Irish together as a Single Honors degree, or take (Modern) Irish as part of a Joint Honours degree along with another subject. We offer interdisciplinary courses as well. Graduates can undertake research or taught postgraduate courses here, and we provide modules for visiting students.
