In this section on you can get more information on the various benefits of volunteering to you and the community, the variety of opportunities available, how to get started and you can also read about the first hand experiences of other student volunteers. You can also discover how to pursue a Gaisce Award. Remember: civic engagement is not limited to particular types of charitable activities. There are any number of ways in which you can (and perhaps already do) help out, give back and generally make a difference to people around you. It's all about being an active part of the society around you.

Whatever your motivation for engaging with the community, you are likely to get back much more than you give. So go on, give it a go...

Project Funding

In March 2011, a number of students applied for a grant to fund an action project or activity which they would like to undertake to meet a community organisation need which you have identified. This activity should enhance or apply academic skills in a real world context. Three successful applicants received grants of up to €2,000 to cover basic living expenses while you are carrying out this project (out of term and usually during the Summer). Learn more about funded projects.
