Research Description:
Dr. Patrick Mitchell is a senior lecturer/associate professor of medicine and respiratory consultant physician at Trinity College Dublin and Tallaght University Hospital. Graduating from UCD in 2007 with a medical degree he specialised in internal medicine and respiratory medicine. He undertook a two-year clinical and research fellowship at McMaster University under which entailed translational research in airway inflammation and servicing both general respiratory and airway inflammation clinics. He also completed a two-year Medical Doctorate thesis on the role of IL-33 in allergic asthma. Following his fellowship he was appointed clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Calgary, Canada where he was director of the airways disease unit. He returned to Ireland to the above mentioned role with his wife and three children. He has authored numerous peer reviewed research manuscripts and co-authored a book chapter on asthma. Dr. Mitchell's clinical interests are in asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), chronic eosinophilic airways disease, autoimmune pulmonary diseases, Sarcoidosis.
