On 23 July 2026, Haocheng Shi, a PhD researcher in the School of Social Work and Social Policy, presented at the 21st International Forum on Social Policy and the 2026 Annual Conference of the Social Policy Research Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association, held at Jilin University in Changchun, China.

Haocheng presented in the conference’s international session. His paper, titled “Social Policy Pathways for Protecting Children Living with Domestic Violence: Institutional Comparison and Policy Learning between Ireland and China”, examined how policy systems in Ireland and China recognise children’s needs, allocate institutional responsibility, and organise protection and service provision in the context of domestic violence and abuse.

The conference brought together social policy researchers from mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan and Southeast Asia and other international contexts. Discussions following the presentation also included Irish social policy, doctoral training in the School, and wider research undertaken by colleagues in SWSP.
