Ava Hofmeister, Tuva Kronqvist, and Cara Kingston

These three History of Art and Architecture Mentors demonstrated their clear information throughout the years for their mentees, through well-informed and structured weekly emails. This award was chosen for this group, when we say the detail and thought that went into these emails, including their detailed guide to Dublin that featured food recommendations, best charity shops, and the best study nooks across the city centre.

Eoghan Obrien, Teodora-Daniela Bedrule, and Noah Kutner

This group not only shared great weekly memes but went as far as creating their own. A favourite across the whole team, their Law-bubu stood out most. This particular limited edition Labubu came with its own gaval and sense of justice.

Teamwork is a core function of S2S, and these four Nursing Mentors really proved that this year. Their dedication and commitment to the role, as well as each other, has stood out to us. From regular meet-ups, to placement top tips, and fun emails - we are delighted to recognise these 4 Mentors for their continued teamwork.

Jennifer Byrne and India Muller

We'll let the joke do the talking for this award.

What do you do with a sick chemist? If you can't helium and you can't curium, then you might as well Barium!

Best Community-Building

Promise has been a committed S2S volunteer over the last few years, and we are so greatful for her contributions throughout. This year, Promise became Chair of S2S Society, the student wing of S2S, increasing its engagement and coordinating several successful events.

Eamon Tang

This volunteer was extremely active during our Summer committee, ensuring our Hoodie collection event actually happened and was well organised.

Peer Supporters' Peer Supporter

Ros McAdden

Providing support as a Peer Support takes a lot of work and a genuine want to help your fellow students, its takes even more work to do that while also supporting your fellow Peer Supporters. This volunteer not only took on their own caseload but made sure to organise meet-ups and social hangouts for their fellow Peer Supporters.

Best Subject Lines

Tommy Dempsey

This volunteer stood out to us, as they had logged on odyssey the subject line of each email and the more we read the better they got. The email subjects appeared to be from the perspective of S2S with titles like

  • "S2S TELLS YALL ABOUT TBALL AND MORE IMPORTANTLY MORE CUTE CATS"
  • "S2S IS HONESTLY really tired BUT we're still cheering you on and wishing you the best!!"
  • "s2s wants You (well it Always does but it Really Does This Time) (hilary week 3)"
  • "S2S EVENT APPROACHING AT RELATIVISTIC SPEEDS but time is not slowing down (S2S Week 8)"

Most Compelling Commendations

Patrick Sean Cassidy and Patrick Flemming

The commendations these volunteers received were too good not to receive an award. I'll let the commendations do the talking:

Patrick Sean Cassidy: "Patrick has been an amazing help to me and the rest of the mentees. He regularly sends helpful emails about things coming up in the course, and basically explains to us what to expect. He also shared plenty of useful documents to help with any assignments or projects that had to be done, and given us tips and tricks on how to survive college. I would argue he has been the best mentor in pharmacy, as I know I am not the only one who has forwarded emails on to friends to help them too! He has always been available to answer any questions, and even arranged to meet us before a very difficult exam to guide us through it. He has inspired me to become a mentor myself next year. Finally, he's always been a friendly face that you could chat to anytime. Thank you Patrick!"

Patrick Flemming: "Patrick (Paddy) Flemming made me feel welcomed from the second I met him, he taught me how to tackle the course as it is very demanding. I really appreciated the time he took out to talk to us for a good few hours multiple times about troubles that one could face in my course. He also taught me his way of studying that made very complex topics a lot easier, he gave me tips and tricks about how to cope with the pressure that comes with the course, and even when I approached him with things that he didn't know how to solve he'd sign post me to the relevant people that could help me. Overall Paddy made my transition from secondary school to college very easy and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't know where to go for my problems."

Best Debriefer

Iyobo Ugiagbe

All Peer Supporters know that debriefing is an important part of the role. This volunteer uses the hour of debrief to question their thinking, critically look at how they handled the case and reflect on something that may have been challenging. Using a debrief as it is intended.

Most S2S Spirited Event

man in suit standing beside three volunteers. all volunteers are holding certificates. one volunteer is wearing a black top and the other two volunteers are wearing red hoodies

Liam Walsh, Denys Keleshohlu, Angele Rogez, Jamie Carson, and Auguste Kalenkeviciute

These two Joint Honour groups demonstrated true S2S spirit by coming together to hold a collab event between their mentees. Originally their event was not a  collab, but when faced with room booking and event funding limits they connected and agreed to work together. Despite not knowing each other previously, they channeled this belonging-spirit and had a great event!

Most Successful School-wide Event

man in suit standing beside four volunteers, all holding certificates

Siria Alicata, Ceyda Dizin, Jana Carnohorski, Luke O Brien, Ginevra Bevilini, Stefania Petcu, Carlotta Piras, Ethan Nolan Ravanona, Ciaran Scott, James Gallagher, Owen Houston, Juliette Kodia, Jade Cassar, Peter Siller, and Dániel Molnár

Organising events is a really important part of being a Mentor, but I don't think we've seen one this big or well attended. At total of 5 groups from Physical Sciences organised a school event involving 13 mentors and 26 mentees.
