Dr Gaia Scalabrino Joins the Advisory Board of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research

Dr Gaia Scalabrino, Executive Director of NatPro, was invited to join the Advisory Board of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research. 

‘It is a privilege to join a transdisciplinary team of experts on the Board and to support a global and diverse community of over 1400 members across more than 90 countries, focusing on delivering bio-based solutions in the area of natural products research.’ Said Dr Scalabrino. 

Gaia brings a wealth of international life-science experience in product development and entrepreneurship, which will align with the Society's mission to advance research, sustainable development and innovation to support health. This new role represents an exciting opportunity for both NatPro and the Society in promoting approaches to deliver impactful and sustainable bio-based solutions across sectors.

The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA) is an international organisation dedicated to advancing research in medicinal plants and natural products. It focuses on pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, and phytotherapy, promoting scientific studies and the application of bioactive natural compounds for health benefits. The society organizes key conferences, such as the International Congress on Natural Products Research, and supports educational activities and the publication of scientific journals in this field. It plays a crucial role in fostering international collaboration, standardizing quality control in herbal medicine, and emphasizing sustainable practices and the conservation of plant resources. About Dr Gaia Scalabrino

A person holding a microphoneDr Gaia Scalabrino was raised in Italy and Kenya, and she holds a Ph.D. in Natural Product Chemistry and P.G. in business, project management and regulations. Alongside the team at NatPro she works on transforming innovative ideas into commercial opportunities to benefit health. Her leadership roles include currently serving as the Executive Director of the NatPro Centre. She also worked as Vice President of Operations and Quality at the biotech Trino Therapeutics Ltd. Further, as Operations and Pharmaceutical Consultant at HiTech Health Ltd,  Gaia supported SMEs across the EU and US, significantly contributing to their growth and drug development programs. 

In her career, Dr Scalabrino has held various strategic and operational roles, demonstrating cross-functional expertise in the life sciences industry. She has been instrumental in strategic planning and fundraising, building multi-disciplinary teams, driving product develooment programmes and designing quality management systems. Currently, in collaboration with Academic Directors of NatPro, the Trinity Centre for Natural Products Research, Gaia has led NatPro to be at the forefront of researching and sustainably developing Natural Products, intersecting various disciplines with applications in life sciences, notably in pharmaceuticals, functional foods, and cosmetics. Find out more here
