24-Hour Study Access
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES SUCH AS DATABASES AND E-JOURNALS CAN BE ACCESSED AROUND THE CLOCK FROM ANY LOCATION WITH INTERNET ACCESS
Access to all out-of-hours study areas requires a valid TCD ID card. Access will not be possible to external readers or students without their ID card.
- There is no access to campus for non-residents after midnight. However:
- Students availing of Library overnight opening may leave the campus after midnight and return within a reasonable time to the Library, but ONLY if they deposit their ID card with the security staff at front gate as they leave and collect it again on their return
- Housekeeping staff commence work in the reading rooms from 06:00. Students may be asked to move to another study desk while cleaning takes place
- Library staff commence out-of-hours shelving routines at 07:00 and students will hear the collection of books via the use of trolleys from this time
- All Library regulations (e.g., no noise; no mobile phone use outside designated areas; no eating) remain applicable. Food and drink may be consumed in the Hamilton Building, where vending machines are available. In addition students found sleeping will be asked to leave
Additional Study Areas, Spring 2013
Berkeley Library (1st and 2nd floors only): Monday 11th March - Sunday 7th April 2013
Berkeley, Lecky and Ussher Libraries: Monday 8th April - Sunday 12th May 2013
Berkeley Library (1st and 2nd floors only): Monday 13th May - Friday 17th May 2013
- The Berkeley/Lecky/Ussher Libraries will close at the usual time of 22:00 (Mon-Fri)/16:00 (Sat)/17:00 (Sun) - all readers are asked to vacate the building, to ensure that only TCD members are re-admitted when the spaces re-open
- At 25 past the hour (i.e., 22:25/16:25/17:25), the single door at the front of the Berkeley Library will re-open admitting ONLY TCD STUDENTS presenting VALID College ID Cards
- Normal circulation arrangements apply and books due must be returned or renewed by 21:50. Renewals after this count as the next working day and any appropriate charges will be applied to reader accounts. Counter Reserve and Stack items must be returned to the Service Counter before 21:50. Items returned the next morning will be fined as normal
- From the time the Library re-opens until 05:00 there will be no FastLane (self-service) in operation - the system must be shut down overnight to allow system maintenance. Material in the open reading rooms will be available to consult
- In the event that all reading spaces are full, no further students will be admitted for health and safety reasons
During this period are several public holidays and Trinity events when the new study areas will not be available:
- The Library is closed on St Patrick’s Day weekend - closing at 16:00 on Saturday 16th March and reopening on Tuesday 19th March at 09:00. The 24 Hour Study Area on the first floor of the Ussher and the 1937 Postgraduate Reading Room will be available
- The Library is closed Easter weekend - closing at 22:00 on Thursday 28th March and reopening on Tuesday 2nd April at 09:00. The 24 Hour Study Area on the first floor of the Ussher and the 1937 Postgraduate Reading Room will be available
- The Library is closed for Trinity Ball - closing at 17:00 on Friday 5th April and reopening on Saturday 6th April at 10:00. All study spaces are CLOSED during this time
Ussher First Floor
Open to all members of College.
On weekdays, opens approximately one hour before the Berkeley/Lecky/Ussher closes to when the Library reopens the following day; open all weekend. Entrance is via the 24-hour computer room accessed by swipe card. Please ask a member of Library Staff for directions if necessary.
1937 Reading Room
Open to postgraduate members of College. Area open all day, entrance accessed by swipe card.
