Translational Medicine Alliance Ireland invites you to their launch event on 1st Dec. 2023

Translational Medicine Alliance Ireland (TMAI) is a new initiative organised as a decentralised collaborative network of 10 Irish Universities with specialised centres in the fields of advanced therapy medicinal products, biomarkers, imaging and tracing, small molecules and vaccines. The establishment of TMAI will catalyse the development of productive translational research collaborations under one umbrella to maximise the exploitation of complementary strengths and drive clinical innovations. A major focus of TMAI is to enhance participation for researchers, clinicians and industry in EU funding initiatives by formally linking with EATRIS, which is the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) for translational medicine. EATRIS offers a broad range of research services for both academia and industry through its 144+ top-tier academic centres across Europe, facilitating academic collaborations with industry and forming consortia to target EU funding opportunities amongst its many other training services and supports.

What are the ambitions for TMAI?

A national collaborative biomedical network such TMAI offers a range of advantages that will significantly contribute to the advancement of biomedical research, healthcare, and innovation and even more so when we can leverage engagement with our European counterparts as facilitated by EATRIS. By fostering collaboration among our brightest minds and their international counterparts, it will propel Irish institutions to the forefront of global research excellence. This will not only enhance our scientific reputation but will also aid with attracting top-tier talent and investment, creating a positive feedback loop of innovation. This interconnectedness will also amplify Ireland's influence in shaping european research agendas, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and positions Ireland as an attractive hub for international collaboration.

Why attend the launch?

The launch will appeal to wide spectrum of researchers, clinicians, nurses, industry partners and policy makers and provides opportunities to find out more about the Alliance coupled with its ambitions and supports for translational researchers. The launch will promote communication and partnerships between researchers/clinicians through networking opportunities with the aim of forming new collaborations. The event will also highlight the latest findings in translational research collaborations nationally and internationally and how TMAI will bolster such activities.

We are delighted to announce that Ms. Frances Fitzgerald MEP will be opening the event with views on the importance of Translational Research for Ireland.
We will also be hearing from two organisations that champion translational research: Dr. Donald Lo (Director of Medicines Development, European Advanced Translational Research Infrastructure in Medicine - EATRIS) will highlight the importance of International team science for more effective translation of research into new and repurposed medicines. Dr. Jason Slingsby (Chief Business Officer, LifeArc, UK) will provide insights from LifeArc on how Partnerships are essential for supporting early translation to help patients.
