Research Interests
I am a maritime archaeologist that studies water, environment, and inequality in the Atlantic World. My previous research primarily focused on the Southeastern United States and ranged from the relationships between imported material culture and gender in the 19th century, to the long-term environmental and social impacts of the colonial rice plantation system in the coastal Carolinas.
I worked as a research fellow with the Trinity Centre for Environmental Humanities and 4-Oceans project from August 2023-May 2025, and am currently a visiting research fellow. My work for the project situates early modern (c.1500-1700 CE) urban European fish markets as a case study for the interrelated social, economic, political, and environmental dynamics associated with marine resource extraction.
