John B. Roney, Sacred Heart University (CT, USA)

BiographyArlene Crampsie photo

John Roney graduated from the University of Toronto (1989) in European history, he has an undergraduate degree in economics, and has studied and researched at the Free University of Amsterdam, Leuven, and Geneva. With a wide-variety of interests in history, he has always been fascinated with coastal environments where marine industries compete with tourism, spending much time in South Holland and Zeeland, the Netherlands. Since 2002 he has taught on the extension campus of Sacred Heart University (Connecticut, USA) in Dingle, County Kerry, during their short immersion programmes. Currently he is part of a team of researchers in marine biology, economics, and historical and anthrological sciences doing a “coupling” study of the critical link between coastal development and the coastal ecosystem in Dingle, and the feedback loops between the two.
