Learning Outcomes
Having successfully completed this module, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate specialised, self-directed knowledge of an area of law through examination of a ‘real-life’ legal research problem or a theme within a research group.
- Constructively evaluate the work of others.
- Synthesise and evaluate a variety of legal research methods, legal sources, findings and analysis.
- Critically analyse an area of law through independent research.
- Effectively communicate research findings.
Module Content
This module will examine how the law is adapting, and should continue to adapt, to the rapid changes in the world of work. Participants will address the themes of technological, economic and social change and the role of legal regulation in both driving and responding to these. Indicative topics to be considered during the module include:
- Worker voice and representation
- Status of workers
- Work-life balance
- Remote working
- Artificial intelligence and algorithmic management
- Surveillance and privacy
- Economic security
- Freedom of expression, accommodation of belief, and other human rights in the workplace
- Globalisation and labour-trade policy

- Individual Project: 85%
- Group Presentation: 15%
