ISCA India Launch in Trinity

The Trinity Global Room is an exciting new space on Trinity’s city centre campus that aims to foster intercultural understanding and international engagement among students, faculty and staff in Trinity.  Launched by Trinity’s Vice President for Global Relations, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer, on Wednesday November 6th, the Global Room reflects the University’s endeavours towards building global relations and a multi-cultural campus that encourages students to develop a global vision.

At the official opening of the Global Room, Professor Jane Ohlmeyer said: “One of our goals at Trinity is to provide the necessary education and supports to ensure that our students have a global outlook, are knowledgeable about the major issues facing today’s world and have exposure to different beliefs, viewpoints and values so that they enter the marketplace as fully engaged global citizens.  The Global Room is a symbol of Trinity’s dedication to becoming a global educational hub and will enable students fully interact with the diverse range of international opportunities on offer at Trinity College Dublin.”

Staffed by a team of Student Ambassadors, the Global Room features a wall of plasma screens with access to over 300 television channels, a resource library with international reading materials, and state-of-the-art conference and seminar facilities for internationally themed events.  Throughout the year the room will host a number of events, including celebrations for a range of national holidays, film screenings, international dance, music and art showcases, along with seminars and talks.

Professor Ohlmeyer commented: “Our Student Ambassadors celebrate the global diversity of the Trinity community, drawing on a wealth of international experience and intercultural curiosity. The Student Ambassadors are a great resource for both current and prospective students interested in Trinity from a global perspective.” The Student Ambassadors will also be actively contributing to a blog on their Trinity experience.  The Student Ambassador blog reflects the diverse education on offer to students at Trinity both inside and outside the classroom and how that allows individuals create a unique university experience.

The Global Room is open from Monday through Friday from 9.30am - 9pm and all students, staff and faculty are welcome.  The Global Room is located beside the Academic Registry and can be contacted at tcdglobalroom@tcd.ie
