Please note that semester dates in New Zealand are flipped compared to Trinity, however this will not affect your exchange. You will finish at Trinity in April/May and then have a shorter summer break before you begin your exchange.
If pursuing exchange during Trinity semester two, you will have a very long break over the holiday break (usually until February).

The standard full-time load at the University of Auckland is four courses (60 points) per semester. Most courses weigh 15 points, which represents 150 hours of study or 10 hours of study per week for 15 weeks.
Some courses have limited or restricted enrolment for exchange students. For a full list, check ‘Course options’ on University of Auckland’s website.

Undergraduate students are not permitted to take postgraduate-level courses. For course descriptors and timetables, search for a specific course to see when (semester/times/streams) it is being offered. If no timetable is shown, the course has not yet been confirmed or is not available.
Students must choose courses from the faculties that have an agreement with the home university. A course from another faculty may be permitted but will require individual approval.

Kiwis (New Zealanders) do not often carry cash; we use our bank cards to pay for most things. It is important that you keep your bank card safe and do not tell anyone your PIN number.

Restricted programmes: Medicine, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or any other clinical course are not open to exchange students. Some Otago courses such as MBA, Wildlife Management and Master of Science Communication are restricted in admissions.

The University of Otago is renowned for its residential campus environment, and you are encouraged to apply for Uniflats. All the University Flats are located within an easy walk of the University campus and main shopping centre. Students share the cleaning and cooking duties and usually shop together for the food. Rent fees include electricity, internet, bed linen, kitchen equipment, UniFlats community events and the services of the University Flats. Flatting expenses are shared with the other students in the flat and are not included in the rent.
