Course Availability
The full-time course load at McGill is 12-15 credits per term. Most undergraduate level (100-500 level) courses are worth 3 credits each. Exchange students are not permitted to take more than 15 credits per term.

To find courses offered at McGill, you can search McGill's course calendar. While researching courses you plan to take, note any prerequisites or other course restrictions which may apply to them. Please note, some courses have limitations for space.

Courses with limited enrolment for exchange students: Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Psychology, Physiology, Engineering and Management: There are limited spaces in all Engineering disciplines at McGill. Students may be responsible for supplemental fees associated with particular courses.

Law and Archiecture: Typically, not open to university-wide agreements (space permitting) must be registered in same program at home university for Law. For Architecture - a portfolio is required.

Music: Strongly recommend starting in the Fall term, must be registered in same program at home university applicants who wish to participate in lessons, ensembles, or other performance classes are required to submit a recorded audition for evaluation. Certain course restrictions apply and registration for practical instruction may incur private lesson fees.

McGill faculties not open for exchange: Medicine, Dentistry, Continuing Studies. Students can take up to one course outside their admitted faculty if space permits and there are no restrictions. This course can be from the School of Continuing Studies; however, students should verify with their home university whether they will receive credit for this course. Permission from their admitted faculty may be required.

If there are restrictions or prerequisite errors while registering, students must contact the department offering the course to obtain permission to register for the course.

Please note, once you are admitted, you are welcome to complete the on-campus residence application, most exchange students will live off campus during their exchange as on-campus housing is in high demand.

Course Availability
Many UBC faculties, schools and programs are open to visiting and exchange students. Some courses are restricted to certain programs. Please check the faculty-specific restrictions and prerequisites on UBC’s website.

Faculties or Schools Not Open to Exchange Students: School of Audiology and Speech Sciences, School of Journalism, Faculty of Medicine, School of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Rehabilitation Sciences, UBC Vantage College and Peter A. Allard School of Law.

Semester Dates
At the University of Waterloo two terms of study are equivalent to a full academic year. University of Waterloo operates on a trimester system with a full fall, winter, and spring term. Each term is four months. Exchange students can only study for one term.
