Irish Language Residency Schemes for students
Trinity College Dublin has an Irish Language Residency Scheme (Scéim Cónaithe) for undergraduate students. The Residency Scheme aims to offer students an opportunity to live in a mini-Gaeltacht in university accommodation. They live with other Irish-speaking students and Irish is the language of communication in Residency Scheme apartments. Residency Scheme students support Irish language activites in Trinity and promote the language among the university community.
There are two parts to the residency scheme in Trinity:
- Accommodation on campus and in Trinity Hall for second, third and fourth year students
- Accommodation in Trinity Hall, Dublin 6 for first-year students
1. Campus & Second-Year Residency Scheme
This Residency Scheme is for second, third and fourth year fulltime, undergraduate students. It is located in Trinity's city centre campus and also in Trinity Hall, Dartry, Dublin 6. A total of 18 spaces are offered; 12 spaces are located on campus and 6 spaces are in Trinity Hall.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Campus & Second Year Residency Scheme for the 2026-27 academic year. Further information is available at this link. The deadline for application is Tuesday 5th May 2026.
2. Trinity Hall/First-Year Residency Scheme
This Residency Scheme is for students who will be in first year in Trinity College Dublin in September 2025. The accommodation is located in Trinity Hall, Dartry, Dublin 6. A total of 12 spaces are offered.
Further information on the First-Year Residency Scheme is available at this link. The application process for the 2025-26 academic year is closed. It will reopen in April/May 2026.
