Irish Language Residency Schemes for students
Trinity College Dublin has an Irish language residency scheme in place for undergraduate students in years 1-4. The scheme aims to offer students an opportunity to live in a mini-Gaeltacht in university accommodation. They live with other Irish-speaking students and are encouraged to use the language in their daily lives. The scheme supports the university's Irish language activites and promotes the language among the student community.
There are two parts to the residency scheme in Trinity:
- Accommodation on campus and in Trinity Hall for second, third and fourth year students
- Accommodation in Trinity Hall, Dartry, Dublin 6 for first-year students
1. Campus & Second-Year Residency Scheme
This scheme is located on Trinity's city centre campus and in Trinity Hall, Dartry, Dublin 6. A total of 18 spaces are offered; 12 spaces centrally located on campus and 6 spaces in Trinity Hall. Any second, third or fourth year undergraduate and fulltime student can apply for this scheme. The spaces in Trinity Hall are for second-years students only, but this does not prevent a second-year student from applying for a space on campus.
Further information on the Campus & Second Year Residency Scheme is available at this link. The application process for the 2023-24 academic year is now closed.
2. Trinity Hall/First-Year Residency Scheme
The accommodation for this scheme is located in Trinity Hall, Dartry, Dublin 6. A total of 12 spaces are offered to students who are applying to be in first year in Trinity in September 2023.
