Trainee Accountant Programme

Since 2011, the Financial Services Division of Trinity College Dublin (FSD) has been a registered mentor/trainer with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, employing a rolling cohort of 2-3 trainee accountants on 3.5 year contracts. Trainees are mentored through their exams to become fully qualified Chartered Accountants, whilst gaining experience in all aspects of financial services through a structured programme provided by FSD.

Trainee accountants have become an integral part of the FSD Team, providing operational support and gaining real-world accounting experience in a complex and varied institution. During the programme, trainees will work with each of the functional areas to develop a comprehensive understanding and overview of how to manage the finances of a large university. Trainees will learn about processing and operational activity in accounts payable, to budget management and financial administration in research and capital projects, right through to forecasting, reporting and the intricacies of the annual audit and account preparation process in the area of management & financial accounting. Throughout the programme, trainees will be mentored by experienced accountants and supported through their exam cycle.

The FSD Trainee Accountant Programme supports Trinity’s values, as outlined in the Strategic Plan - inquisitive, pioneering, responsible, inclusive, and collaborative. The Programme also aligns with FSD's own values of:

  • Working in Partnership
  • Teamwork
  • Integrity
