The Junior Sophister Year Abroad is an integral and compulsory part of the European Studies degree programme, and takes place in your third year.

The European Studies Study Abroad Handbook will help you plan ahead, and to ensure that your academic activities abroad meet Trinity’s requirements, enabling you to progress successfully into the Senior Sophister year.

The major language you choose out of the two you have studied in your first two years in College defines your destination (i.e. a country where this language is spoken). Additional costs of living will be covered by the EU Erasmus grant.

My Erasmus year in Germany enabled me to apply and develop the language skills I acquired during my first and second years at Trinity, both in the classroom and in everyday life.
