Welcome from the Provost

Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union comes at an important moment for Europe and for the wider world. Across research, education, technology, sustainability and democracy, the questions we face demand shared responses.

Universities as central to that work.  

As Ireland takes the presidency for the next six months, Trinity is delighted to contribute to this vast agenda through research, innovation, dialogue and partnership. We will welcome researchers, policymakers, students, cultural organisations and international delegates to our campus to explore some of the most important issues shaping Europe’s future.  

These conversations will span many areas - from artificial intelligence, climate and biodiversity, and health innovation, to democracy, inclusion and the role of universities in an increasingly complex world. What connects them is a belief that knowledge, openness and collaboration matter deeply. This is not new territory for Trinity. Our researchers and students are already working on many of these questions, and their work is already shaping the answers Europe is looking for.  

Trinity has long been part of the European story. Our researchers work across borders and disciplines; our students come from across Europe and beyond; and our partnerships connect us to communities, institutions and ideas throughout the continent. 

The Irish presidency offers an opportunity to showcase Ireland and Europe at their best, to demonstrate what is possible when curiosity is properly invested in, and to ask ambitious questions about the kind of future we want to build together.  

We look forward to welcoming colleagues and visitors to Trinity during this important period and to contributing meaningfully to the conversations ahead.
