Joint Honours Economics
The Joint Honours Economics programme allows students to study economics alongside one of seven other subjects, developing expertise in both disciplines over the course of their degree. The programme provides flexibility and academic breadth, with the option to focus more heavily on one subject or maintain a balance between the two.

Is it for me?
Economics will appeal to students who are interested in how societies allocate resources, respond to global challenges, and design effective public policy. If you’re curious about current affairs, enjoy working with data, or want to understand the forces that shape economies and societies, you’ll find economics both engaging and relevant.
It also provides a strong foundation for careers in business, finance, journalism, law, public policy, and academia. Students who enjoy analytical thinking and problem-solving - and who are also considering subjects like mathematics or engineering - may find economics a compelling option.
Course Structure
Economics in the Joint Honours programme can be combined with one of the following subjects:
- Geography
- History
- Mathematics
- Philosophy
- Sociology
- Modern Languages (German or Spanish)
Students study both subjects throughout the degree, with greater flexibility to specialise in later years. Subject pairings can reflect a wide range of interests, for example, Economics and Mathematics suits those with strong quantitative skills and a focus on finance or actuarial studies, while Economics and Geography is ideal for students interested in urban and regional planning.
