How we support Trinity staff to support students

The Careers Service can help you to equip your students with the skills they need to enhance their employability and succeed in their future careers. Our work is informed by the objectives of the College’s Strategic Plan and by national initiatives and good practice in careers and employability. Here's how you can help support your students in their career journey.

Connect

Trinity Careers Service works with employers to explore opportunities to advance our academic mission and better prepare our students for the changing workplace of the future. Trinity Careers Service welcomes the opportunity to build employer connections together. Here’s how we can support each other:

We can help you identify and source guest lecturers from organisations where the specialist area of their work is relevant to the programmes within your School. Such lectures give insight into the challenges and opportunities in that specific sector and can highlight what skills employers in that sector are looking for.

We can link you with employers who are interested in delivering skills training or participating in case study days. We can also advise on suitable topics.

Several Trinity courses require students to undertake work-related projects as part of their studies. These can range from an undergraduate final year project to one which could form the basis of a Masters or PhD thesis. We can help identify employers who can support such project work.

Trinity Careers Service is open to the exchange of employer contacts so that we can more effectively build employer relationships and ensure that the relevant organisation information is registered on MyCareer, the Trinity Careers Service portal.

Internships

Experiential and work-based learning gives students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge, explore organisations and sectors they might be interested in working in and get valuable life experience.

In order to support the application of a student’s academic knowledge to the development of transferrable skills and to prepare them for their future careers, Trinity aims to create opportunities for students to engage in internships and placements during their time at Trinity, which may be for credit as part of their academic programme of study.

The Internships and Placements Policy (below) provides Schools and staff with a set of standards and guidelines on how to develop and manage new and existing internships in order to ensure that the students’ experience of internship is consistent across the University and is in line with good practice. Sample agreements have also been developed to provide templates for use by Schools (below).

Graduate Outcome Survey

The Higher Education Authority requires all third level colleges to survey their graduates 9 months after leaving university. The statistical information received is supplied to the HEA for its annual composite report on the destinations of graduates from Irish universities. The survey is completed in compliance with GDPR guidelines and is treated in absolute confidence.

Contact the careers consultant linked to your school to receive information about the graduate destinations of your undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research students.
