David McConnell, student (1962-66), member of academic staff (1970-2014), Head of Genetics (1987-98) and Professor of Genetics (1990-2014), has retired after a distinguished academic career. His colleagues would like to acknowledge David's contributions to genetics research and teaching and to science in general in Trinity, in Ireland and internationally.

We would like to invite you to a celebratory symposium entitled:

"Surfing the Waves of Genetics at Trinity -
a celebration to mark the retirement of David McConnell
"

on Saturday May 9th 2015 (10 am - 5 pm) in the Quek Lecture Theatre, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (see programme). This will be followed by dinner in the College Dining Hall (7 pm).

We would especially like to welcome back as many alumni as possible to this event, to help celebrate David's commitment to teaching over 44 years and his generous mentorship of so many students and alumni.

To ensure that his vision for the development of genetics and science endures, we are establishing the David McConnell Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate of the Smurfit Institute to foster their careers in genetics through study abroad.

Registration for this event is now closed.
