History

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is housed in the Parsons Building, at the eastern end of the campus. The Department is proud of its heritage as well as its position at the forefront of Mechanical engineering research and teaching. This philosophy is reflected in our building, which is named after Charles Parsons, and itself a marvel of architectural design by the Irish firm Grafton Architects. The modern extensions (1996, 2005) to the original 19th century building have won a number of architectural awards (2005, 2006 Architectural Association of Ireland, Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland).
