This policy coherence website on the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is maintained by Professor Alan Matthews, Professor of European Agricultural Policy at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.
Alan Matthews has long had an interest in the impact of the CAP on developing countries. In 1985 he published The Common Agricultural Policy and the Developing Countries (Dublin, Gill and Macmillan) in association with Trocaire, the Irish development NGO. He has also written extensively on special and differential treatment for developing countries in the WTO Agreement on Agriculture, on the relationship between Economic Partnership Agreements and food security and poverty and on the relationship between trade and food security.
An earlier version of the website was developed as part of a project on Policy Coherence and Agricultural Development funded by the Advisory Board for Irish Aid. Other researchers on that project included Thomas Giblin, Hannah Chaplin and Marian Mraz. I am also grateful to David Quinn who provided assistance in updating some of the content of the website during the summer of 2008.
