Research topic : Assessing the Impact of Societal Change on Representation and Accountability

his research project aims to examine the levels of ideological congruence across different types of electoral system, and across time to see if Proportional Representation (PR) electoral systems are now less congruent with their electorates than previously thought. If this is found to be true, then do parties within these polities compensate for this shortfall through heightened electoral responsiveness to the changing preferences of their electorates? Or conversely, are these polities hamstrung by the mechanics of their electoral systems which prioritise representation over accountability?
