Paul Mitchell is Senior Lecturer of English at the UCV in Spain. Whilst his initial work focused on the Gothic motifs of monstrosity, deformity and trauma, his most recent projects explore depictions of illness in graphic medical texts, particularly with an emphasis on how social constructions of gender impact on individuals’ personal health experiences. He is currently writing a monograph about the role of political patienthood in comics and zines that deal with a range of medical conditions.
