The Brexit years placed a strain on British-Irish relations. Yet, that relationship is central to stability in Northern Ireland, and both the UK and Ireland still enjoy close economic and cultural ties. The election of the Labour government in the UK has created a new dawn and both the prime minister Keir Starmer, and the taoiseach Micheál Martin have emphasised British-Irish friendship. This seminar brings together top diplomats (past and present), as well as journalists and academics to assess the current relationship and discuss the challenges and opportunities ahead. This seminar is to mark the publication of British-Irish Relations in the Twenty-First Century: the Good Friday Agreement, Brexit and the Totality of Relations, (Oxford, OUP) by Etain Tannam.
