Estimating the travel to work carbon footprint of Ireland

Carbon footprint of Ireland

  • Project Team:
    • Project Leader: Dr. Brian Caulfield
    • Research Student: David Mc Namara
  • Description:
    • This research will estimate the travel to work carbon footprint of Ireland. The results of this research will demonstrate which sections of the population have the largest carbon footprints. The 2006 Place of work Census of Anonymised Records dataset (POWCAR), which is tabulated by the Central Statistics Office every four years, will be used in this study. The POWCAR dataset has 1.8 million records.

The POWCAR dataset contains information on the distance travelled, socio-economic grouping, occupation, household structure, and modes of transport used to travel to work. Econometric software will be used to run logistic regression analysis on the POWCAR dataset to identify the characteristics of individuals with larger carbon footprints.
